Cellular Phone Batteries
New advances in cellular phone batteries are aimed at extending battery life and reducing the weight of the battery. The new lithium ion (LiON) batteries can deliver more than four hours of talk time or a week of standby time! They may also weigh up to a third less than the nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries that are standard in most new Cellular Phones. They're more expensive than NiMH batteries, but still affordable and deliver great performance.
Have you heard that you're supposed to discharge your cellular phone battery completely before recharging it? That advice applies to the nickel cadmium (NiCad) batteries used in some models, including many older phones. NiCad batteries are less expensive than NiMH or LiON, but they're susceptible to the "memory effect"-their memory will be permanently reduced if the battery isn't discharged completely prior to recharging. But if your phone has a NiMH or LiON battery, you can recharge anytime and still get great battery life.
